KL

Seems like The Boy and I aren't fated to visit Kuala Lumpur :P  It's either I fall sick or we have our spats.  This time wasn't any different; we were excited about our weekend getaway for our 1 year anniversary.

In KL, it's imperative to eat all the street food one can eat! :P  They're sinful as all heck, but it's so rare in Singapore to taste anything fragrant from the addition of heavenly lard! :P

We stayed at the Parkroyal Hotel thanks to the convenience it provides.  Everything is nearby, including Berjaya Times Square, which is just a 5-minute walk away.  The rooms are comfortable and affordable as well.

The fried hokkien noodles are dark, smooth with grease and utterly delicious!  Not so crazy about the mutton curry, alas.  The meat was far too tough and we've tasted much more tender mutton curry back home.

The trip was ruined when we had our spat and, eventually, we had our first major break-up in Singapore after the anniversary trip.  Although we ignored each other for a few days, it wasn't long before we got in touch again.

During this time, another gentleman was pursuing me and we went out on dates.  I'd thought that, because there're options, I needn't worry about being single.  How wrong I was.

When the guy gave me a goodnight kiss after a date, all I could think of was The Boy.  When the guy asked me to go with him to KL for good food, all I could think of were the mini vacations I took with The Boy.

This sparked a very honest talk between us.  Sure, there're very fast differences in terms of our personalities.  He has a Scorpio moon; mine is Aquarius.  In astrology, these are known as squares and they're very frustrating aspects to share in a relationship.

But...

And that's a huge BUT...

There's no discounting the good times we have with each other and so far, they outweigh the bad times.  We decided to wipe the slate clean and give it another go.  We're doing things differently now; fingers crossed that it works out : )

Grooming is SO important

After dealing with really slipshod work from 2 colleagues - 1 thankfully left us and 1, hopefully, will either shape up or ship out soon - I told Guo Ming this: please do NOT hire any more sloppy people!  If they look sloppy, they ARE sloppy and they will give us shoddy work!

My grandma was a VERY vain woman.  She still is.  So is my mummy.  Some people will call them shallow and accuse them of only focusing on appearances.  Heck, they probably also assume I'm shallow because I don't bother about their great personalities.  Well, that's hogwash.

What is internal is often reflected in the external.  If a person bothers to groom and be presentable, if a person doesn't shuffle along but takes proper strides, if a person doesn't waddle slowly and block everyone's path but is brisk and energetic, this person takes pride in himself or herself.

Although there're always exceptions to the rule, generally, with sloppy people, one gets shoddy work.  Then they turn around and complain that people are too hard on them.  Yah right.  When their outstanding files outnumber the average output by 400+, they deserve being pushed.  HARD.

The other day I read something quite meaningful.  Winners don't wanna be in the company of losers.  It's quite true.  Nothing spells loser quite like S-L-O-B.  Many Fat Acceptance peeps don't realise that it's not fat which repulses people.  It's those who're just sitting like blobs, not taking care of themselves and not bothering to groom themselves who're turn-offs.

Otherwise why would some overweight women still be able to attract tons of guys?  They have beautiful features and when they bother to scrub up, they ooze sex appeal!  Then there're people like Danny who wear shapeless tees and large shorts with NO UNDERWEAR (thereby raping people's eyes) and who don't shower unless really pushed to do so.

YUCK.  I think maybe people should rethink the 'No Fat Chicks' thingy and simply put 'No Slobs'.  They're a huge turn-off.

Bacon and mushroom cheesy sauce and internet policing fat acceptance weirdos

I made this sauce to go with tortilla chips during a beer session, but it can be used for pasta, as a dip for toasted breadsticks and as a topping for jacket or mashed potatoes as well : )  Quite proud of it considering how UNdomestic I am :P

Let's just say my companion finished it all!!! :P  Even after I'd stopped eating!!! :P

**********

I shared that there're many online write-ups about fat acceptance.  There're also comments sections where people voice opinions.  Of course, the overweight got upset and started bashing authors  and readers who don't advocate fat acceptance for having the audacity to write what they think.

This is despite the opinions being factual and without bias.  They weren't targeting any individual in particular.  They were not making personal attacks.  They were not insulting anyone.  Strangely, these hypersensitive overweight women took offence and started being downright nasty.

So I wrote an innocent comment about an article mentioning that I still fit into the jeans which I kept from university days.  I also stated that weight management is about discipline.  Did I insult anyone?  No, right?  Well guess what?  2 weirdos took it upon themselves to 'put me in place' for 'my arrogance' and 'being smug'.  Can someone say:

HUH???!!!

I tried to reason with 1 of them, but they were so intent on malice and shaming me into apologising for their 'hurt feelings' that they weren't the least bit logical.  You can read the ramblings of the irrational in the comments section of the article here:

Thereafter, I realised that it was a waste of time to even try to talk sense to these people.  I stood by what I said and still do.  I did not insult them, did not make personal attacks which they did against other readers who commented and I will not apologise for my valid, non-malicious opinion.

So when I see a malicious reply, I don't bother reading beyond the first few words.  Instead, I simply respond with, "I'm still slim."  It works! :P  They cannot do anything because I'm not giving them any attention nor my precious time :P  Probably they're seething inside, I dunno :P

These self-appointed guard dogs of cyberspace think people with opinions that differ from theirs, such as fat isn't healthy or guys voicing their preference for healthy-weight women, should be shamed into silence or submission.  They think they can magically brainwash us into changing our views.

Well, wake up from your hallucinations, sweeties!  There're other people who inhabit the same world as you do.  It's not always all about you.  When we make comments, it's just our opinions in general and not specifically about you.  You're a narcissist if you think the universe revolves solely around you.

Wake up call: it does not.

The more you try to censor others, the more you try to have things banned in order to have your way, the more you behave like a spoiled brat, the more turned off people are by the Fat Acceptance Movement.  Yes, it's true!  When you insult people, you're not defending nor standing up for yourself, especially when the victims of your aggression did nothing to provoke you and were not referring to you.

What you're doing is..........  BULLYING AND SHAMING.

You're bullying and shaming people into not having legitimate opinions.

You're bullying and shaming people into not having decent and intelligent discussions.

You're bullying and shaming people into not writing articles about their concern for the welfare of the country.

You're bullying and shaming people into not wanting to eat well.

You're bullying and shaming people into not finding morbid obesity unappealing and unhealthy.

That is what you're doing.

BULLYING AND SHAMING.

People aren't reacting negatively to you because you're fat.  They're reacting negatively to you because you bash everyone, insult men's upbringing and the size of their manhood, feel ever so free to hurl profanities and obscenities, judge freely yet accuse everyone of judging you and a whole host of undesirable behaviours.

Reddit, Tumblr, ThoughtCatalog and other platforms don't belong to you.  They're NOT solely your territory.  Everyone is free to use them as long as they operate within the rules and regulations.  There're moderators to do the policing job, if necessary, thank you very much.

They don't need a self-appointed guard dog.  Especially a rabid one.

Think about it.

If you actually think, that is.

Oh and by the way, if you hate me, I'm still slim :P

Mel's Place

Had a drink and some tasty treats with GM.  It's a bonus he lives near me, so enjoying good company is a great way to pass the hours : )  So he swung by to pick me up.  We were supposed to head to Chinese Swimming Club but, along the way, I realised I didn't bring my membership card! *faints*

Rather than waste time turning back to retrieve it, we headed to Mel's Place instead.  GM liked the casual surroundings, but he was hungry again and wanted food :P  This, after taking his mum out for a good dinner earlier :P

Note to Ms Ah: some eye candy for you! :P  He's a gentleman who respects women and has pretty sound principles and morals too : )  In return, he enjoys a lot of popularity and respect from most he interacts with, me included : )

Grilled Japanese squid, luncheon meat fries and salted egg yolk fries, accompanied by 1 for 1 Kilkenny.

We passed the night laughing over shared stories and experiences, chatting about our lives and getting to know each other better.  Funny how one's perception of life is molded by our interactions with people : )

We're so doing this again!

Different body shapes

There're various body shapes and ways to dress for them.  I was trying to decide what was mine and thought it was pear.  Then The Boy told me I fitted cone, or the inverted triangle, more.  If you wanna see what body shapes yours falls into, here's the pic for reference : )

Neat, huh?

The neat hour glass is the most ideal and, in order to achieve this, some women opt for breast implants.  The rest of us?  Well, we make the most of what we've been blessed with.  I know I do.  I'm quite fine with not being full-busted.  A fat woman, called Michelle, once snidely remarked that at least she has breasts and not an airport runway chest like mine.

But...  She is fat.  I am not.  I'm not about to gain massive weight just so I can have boobs like hers.  This kinda spite is the trademark of feminist FAMs.  The energy would be better channelled into proper grooming and hygiene.  When holidaying in Australia with Ms Ah, she didn't exactly bathe regularly.  That's really gross and sloppy!

Rather than bemoan what I lack, I choose to highlight what I have.  And that is, long and slim legs! : )  Because cone shaped bodies aren't large in the hips, peplum styles look great on them, whereas people with bigger hips should avoid them in order not to look bottom-heavy.

So I wear peplum, minis, shorts, jeggings, etc.  It's helpful for women to dress according to their body shapes to bring out their best features and downplay their less flattering ones.  Then we can all look amazing!  And erm, a final note --> do take proper care, hygiene-wise ; )

db Bistro Moderne

EL and I have known each other for some time now : )  It's lovely to meet and know that the night will be pleasant!  This time, I introduced him to the culinary delights of db Bistro Moderne.  It was great to see him!

It was also good to be back at the gorgeous, posh bistro, with its tasteful decor and glamourous bar counter : )  And the fooooooooooooood, OMG, the fooooooooooood!!!  Heavenly, delicious, well-prepared foooooooooood!!!

Here's my slow-cooked salmon, elegantly placed on top corn, diced potatoes and diced bacon!  It was so tender and smooth, my insides melted from pleasure :P  The crisp skin, the sublime oils, man, I've missed this!

We discussed trends we've observed, news and articles of interest and caught up on each other's lives.  He also told me, goodness gracious, that my alma mater is being sued for negligence!  Apparently, a schoolgirl was bullied to the point where she was traumatised.

School bullying needs to stop.  I feel sorry for that girl.  Hope she'll be fine soon.  Apart from this, it was a very pleasant night.  We'll be meeting again soon : )

Creamy scrambled eggs, ramyun and hard selling

For an UNdomestic person, happy to say my cooking attempts are still edible.  People haven't died from sampling my dishes :P  Previously, Ms Ah and I loved the creamy scrambled eggs Danny used to make for us.  Well, I tried cooking some and, hey hey HEY!  They turned out pretty good! :P

Supper :P  Yes, I have supper :P

So what went into this simple dish?  2 eggs, 2 slices of diced ham, cream cheese, 1 slice mozarella cheese and butter.  For taste, rosemary and thyme mix, red chilli powder, shoyu and pepper.  All that is needed for these creamy and smooth eggs is to turn the heat off when the eggs are about 3/4 cooked.

Continue to let the eggs solidify, then, when just done, serve.  Voila!

**********

Had cheese and luncheon meat ramyun the other day.  I miss Korean food!  It may be time to return to Seoul Yummy soon : )

It's sooooooo good! *drools*

**********

I caught an episode or 2 of Dr Oz.  This is purely my opinion.  Izzit just me or is his mannerism that of a typical hard-selling salesman?  Sure, he must be very successful at marketing because he's still in business and our young and impressionable locals who joined the workforce have adopted this behaviour.

It works on TV but not in real life, certainly not here.  These youngsters come across as trying too hard and a tad fake.  Another tactic used is coming up to strangers and going, "Hi, how was your day?" or "After work?  Having dinner?"  Their agenda is only so obvious when they're clutching documents or pamphlets in their hands.

Dr Oz and his like will take a much longer time catching on here.  Thank goodness.

Japanese curries and feminism

Oh my, I ADORE Japanese curries!!!

Chicken karaage and omu rice curry

Creamy chicken and omu rice curry

There's a Japanese restaurant at the ground level of Bugis+.  I've forgotten the restaurant name, but you can't miss it if you browse through the menu : )  They specialise in Japanese curry omu rice combos.  You can even customise the ingredients to make your very own special meal!

**********

Some Hollywood celebrities have embraced feminism.  We started to see this when women consistently got portrayed as a kick-ass babe.  Charlie's Angels.  Kill Bill.  Underworld.  Just to name a few.  There're more starring Jessica Biel and Jessica Alba too.  Then there are the talkshows where celebrities called for more women to be represented - as directors and what not.

Calling for equal rights.  For an end to discrimination and sexism.  You know what?  These women should just keep quiet.  It's hard to tell whether or not there's vested interest and whether they're just saying those things to appeal to the public or to secure their futures when they're too old to be on our silver screens.

Feminism started on the right note - to give women the right to vote.  It took women outta their traditional roles in the home to the workforce.  This contributed to more food on the table and more spending money for families.  This is good.  Women also became more educated and earned more.  This is good.

THEN.  It got taken to the extreme and, as we all know, when things are taken to the extreme, it doesn't end well at all.

Women started climbing the corporate ladder.  Whilst this isn't necessarily a bad thing, they started emasculating men.  They started taunting them, demanding equal rights but not wanting to actually respect men's rights as well.  Part of this is via tying up with FAM to force fat is beautiful and equality for all down everyone's throats.

Men, of course, are not pleased by this.  However, when they dare to voice disagreement, they're quickly shot down by those they label 'feminazis'.  These women are downright scarily aggressive.  They mud-sling, name-call, swear and insult men's privates without a hint of shame.

There's nothing ladylike left in these women and, unfortunately, this extreme movement has gained quite a large following.  It's quite akin to a cult where they attempt to brainwash everyone to follow their agenda.  It's sick, it's wrong and I can understand why their men are fleeing for better shores.

I wouldn't wanna live in such a society either *shudder*

Le Orient

After reading about the deterioration of western societies, I appreciate all the more our asian virtues.  At the very least, many women in Asia retain some modesty.  With a few exceptions, we don't happily reveal what should be kept private for our partners' eyes.

The situation has gotten so bad in western societies that some Americans advocate public shaming in order to restore decency and moral values in their citizens.  Whilst that may seem extreme, desperate measures need to be taken in desperate situations.  Given their current circumstances, perhaps public shaming could be the very thing that stops the downward spiral into a very dark abyss.

The Boy and I had a chat about this.  He said fat acceptance wouldn't be successful here.  As for the slut walk, hmm, well, there will always be women willing to forego their dignity for attention.  To some, good or bad attention is all good attention, especially from men.

I shudder to think what Singapore would be like if we had crazy hustlers marching in protest at rape like the pictures below.

GROSS, right?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

That's why I'm glad to live here.  Singaporeans are still relatively SANE, at least for now.  It's hard to say where we'll be a few decades down the road.  Globalisation means we're sent subliminal messages through various forms of media and, if we're not careful, our future generations may end up lacking any shame.

As long as we retain our modesty and other asian virtues, the probability of men using our women for a quick yuckyyuckyyuck then dumping them instead of viewing them as respectable relationship material is far lower.  There will always be jerks, but karma will also step in ultimately.

I'm proud of our oriental roots and the depravation of western societies only makes me appreciate our values and customs more.  Perhaps this is the direction I can focus on and work on for the time being.  It makes our lives even more meaningful somehow, when there's something to work towards : )

Hide Yamamoto

Ler was feeling demoralised.  He opted to join a new team during the restructuring (which I escaped from :P) and, whilst he doesn't fully regret his decision as it affords him opportunities to learn, he hasn't exactly been given the best support either.

So, being the nice people we are, we took him out for his favourite cuisine - Japanese!!!

We headed to Hide Yamamoto for refined, delicious and expensive yumdoms :P  Ler is crazy about good sashimi, so he was eager to try the selection as this restaurant which is very popular amongst the Japanese : )

3 types of appetisers, from left to right, grilled bonito, ginger glass noodles and delicately steamed chilled veggies with bonito flakes.  1 of the pluses of eating Japanese is, the portions are tiny, which allows customers to sample a wide variety of dishes without feeling completely stuffed!

Ler and Cat went wild about this one.  2 slices of salmon belly, 2 slices of hamachi and 2 slices of heavenly otoro!!!  Ler commented later that the sashimi alone made the hefty price tag worthwhile : )

More sashimi!  Kaisen don!

We ended the meal with an orange ice cream served in a shot glass.  So cute, right? : )

Afterwards, Ler thanked me for organising the lunch.  It made him feel a lot better.  Hopefully things improve for him soon.  Poor dude.

Woolloomoolloo with Chris

Caught up with Chris for some champagne and good food.  He introduced me to Woolloomoolloo, a restaurant tucked away in a small corner at Raffles City : )  It serves yummy Australian cuisine and is quite a popular place (with Chris, that is :P  He takes his dates here :P).

Thankfully, the waitress is better at taking photos than the Beanstro waiter :P

I was in a mauve dress from www.shoplabellavita.com : )  The clothes there fit me well, especially those for sizes UK8 to UK10.  Fabrics are usually quite good and prices are very reasonable.  I love the styles there too! : )  Ok, back to the restaurant.  This is what I had.

Carrot and ginger soup

DIVINE.

Rainbow trout rolled with eggplant and zucchini and Lyonnaise potatoes

DIVINE.

Berry vol-au-vents with vanilla ice cream and cookie crumbs

DIVINE DIVINE DIVINE!!!

All washed down with a glass of delicious champagne! :D  The restaurant is worth a visit.  I highly recommend it!
